Rewild Swim Club, Elmore

Water has always held a special, restorative power for me. When I first moved to the Cotswolds, I quickly discovered the joys of wild swimming, a practice that seems to resonate with many of my clients. There’s something about the combination of freedom, challenge, and deep connection with nature that makes wild swimming so appealing. To my surprise - and that of those who know me - I now swim throughout the year, exploring various spots around Gloucestershire.
My wild swimming journey began at the Rewild Swim Club in Elmore. Set amidst rewilded land, Madame’s Pond is a serene haven, surrounded by nature’s beauty. The pond is stunning, with clear waters and vibrant birdlife. If you’re lucky, you might spot a kingfisher diving into the water or perching on a reed.

What sets Rewild apart is the luxurious experience it offers. After a refreshing swim, you can enjoy the on-site sauna, warming up and soaking in the tranquillity of the surroundings. The welcoming atmosphere created by Sarah and her team makes it the perfect place for seasoned swimmers and newcomers. You might be looking to push your boundaries; you might simply want to connect with nature in a meaningful way: whichever, Rewild Swim Club is the ideal spot to immerse yourself – literally - in the wild beauty of the Cotswolds.

Warrior & Wild Yoga Studio

Along with wild swimming, my other go-to for grounding and exercise is yoga, and Warrior & Wild in Nailsworth is my sanctuary for unwinding. This boutique yoga studio offers classes that cater to all levels, from invigorating Vinyasa, to more restorative practices such as Yin and meditation. I love my Dynamic Flow class with Noémie. The space is warm and welcoming, and they are very happy for visitors to the area to book in for one or two sessions.
Whether you're an experienced yogi or just starting out, you'll find this studio offers the ideal environment to recharge mentally and physically. For me, it’s not just about the physical benefits of yoga; it’s about finding time to meditate and be present, which is exactly what I get at Warrior & Wild.

Upton Smokery

There’s something that’s undoubtedly good for our health about bringing people together over a delicious meal, and Upton Smokery is one of my favourite spots for just that. Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, it’s a hidden gem offering smoked meats, fish, and cheeses that are simply mouth-watering. On a sunny day, there's nothing better than sitting outside with a group of friends, enjoying the picturesque surroundings and indulging in some of the best food the Cotswolds has to offer.
The relaxed, rustic charm of Upton Smokery is what makes it so special. This is somewhere to eat, laugh and create memories. I could be picking up treats for a picnic or enjoying a leisurely lunch in the garden: Upton Smokery never fails to leave me feeling recharged and content, especially on a sunny day.

Stroud Farmers’ Market

The farmers’ market is a weekend ritual for lots of people in Stroud where I live. There's something incredibly relaxing about wandering through bustling stalls, chatting with local vendors, and soaking up the atmosphere. The market is vibrant, and hits all the senses with the smell of fresh bread, the sight of colourful fruits and vegetables, and the sound of live music filling the air.
I find inspiration in the creativity and passion of the artisans who sell their goods here. From handcrafted pottery to organic produce, there's always something new and exciting to discover. But, more than that, the market is a place where the community comes together. Friends meet for coffee; families explore the stalls; and there’s a general sense of camaraderie that I find both comforting and uplifting. It’s a place to buy treats, and to enjoy the ambiance: a trip to Stroud Farmers’ Market never fails to leave me feeling inspired.

The Commons: Rodborough and Selsley

Last but certainly not least, the commons near where I live, particularly Rodborough and Selsley, are my ultimate destinations for gaining perspective. These expansive green spaces offer some of the most breath-taking views in the Cotswolds, stretching as far as Wales. It's a great place to blow away the cobwebs, whether I'm out for a walk with the dog or just sitting quietly, taking in the beauty of the landscape.
What I love about the commons is the variety they offer. During the week, they’re peaceful and serene, with wild orchids blooming in late spring and early summer: skylarks singing; and an atmosphere of pure tranquillity. But there’s also a sense of adventure and freedom here, especially on weekends when you might encounter Highland cattle grazing, kites flying overhead, or even paragliders soaring through the sky. For me, spending time on the commons is about finding a sense of space.
